Ellen Humerickhouse was 19 when she felt the call to follow GOD but wasn’t sure where HE wanted her to serve. After missionary trips to various inner cities in the US, as well as Uganda, Ethiopia, and Reynosa, Mexico, she went on a trip to Arcahaie, Haiti that changed her life. Haiti is still struggling to recover after the 2010 earthquake that killed tens of thousands of people, and left many more homeless and destitute. However, Ellen’s heart was touched by the fact that people who live in shacks, have little or no food and get their drinking water from a ditch still know how to share the love of Jesus Christ. There is so much need in Haiti that Ellen didn’t know what she, as one person, could do but she knew she had to do something. So, in the fall of 2013 after much prayer GOD provided a vision to Ellen. With that encouragement she bought some land in the village of Guiton to build a children’s home. At La Limyè, we believe making a lasting difference means focusing on quality of care, not simply the number of children we can house. While we may have the financial resources to provide a home for more children, our goal is to ensure that every girl in our care receives the individual attention, love, support, and guidance she needs to grow and thrive. By caring for 10 girls in our Children’s Home, we are able to fully support their physical, emotional, educational, and spiritual needs. Rather than expanding simply to bring more children into the home, we also work to strengthen and support families in the surrounding community so that, whenever possible, children can remain with their families while still receiving the resources and care they need.
