I don’t think there’s any way to accurately describe our roller coaster of a mental state over here as far as insecurity.
No matter what day, what time, or what occasion, there’s always that stomach punch of reality that sneaks in just when you start to “enjoy” life.
We are happy. We feel safe. We have food. We are blessed. And then we open our phones and are reminded how fragile life is. How evil the world is. How utterly detrimental the situation is primarily in the Capital of Haiti.
The gangs have full control. They are extremely brutal in their attacks and it’s hard to fully live in the “now” knowing what’s always lurking around the corner. The “what ifs” are torturous. The future is worrisome, and it takes great faith to turn back to Jesus over, and over, and over again amidst such real-life nightmares. Sometimes we conquer and sometimes we fail. But we must keep trying to focus on the truths. His word.
We fix our eyes on Jesus. The maker of us all. He who has a reason for everything under the sun.
We might enjoy the day, but our hearts are never far from the victims all around us.
If you get a minute today, pray for Haiti.
It’s getting worse in and around the capital and no one is stopping them.
We need a miracle and in Jesus’ name, we believe a miracle will come.
“Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!” Hebrews 12:2-3 MSG
